Steeped in history, Javea is overlooked from the north by the Montgo mountain, famous for the cave they call it’s ’eye’. It is said locally: ’If you gaze into the eye you will be besotted by the area and will return year after year’. The region is known as the ’oasis of Spain’, with an abundance of olive groves, almond trees, citrus fruits, vines and pine forests making the area green all year, despite the average 300 days of sunshine. Javea is a popular holiday resort and the old town has maintained it’s whitewashed buildings and narrow streets; combined with the nightly fish markets in the port.
